Reflective vs Fluorescent

Posted by Mindy on Feb 24th 2023

There is always some discussion about which is better...and what is the difference between...reflective material and fluorescent material.  While it always comes down to personal preference I thought I would share the differences to help you make the best decision for your wraps.

reflective  /rəˈflektiv/  1. providing a reflection; capable of reflecting light.  (like a mirror reflects your image, reflective wrap material will reflect the direct light of a flashlight making it somewhat glow)

fluorescence  /flo͝o(ə)ˈresəns,flôrˈesəns/  1. the emission of light by a substance that has absorbed light.  (so when in low light conditions fluorescent wrap material will emit light making them appear to glow)

My personal preference:

In the fall, as the days get shorter, I have a habit of staying in the stand just one minute longer.  Suddenly it's pretty dark and when I go to look for my arrow it helps to be able to shine a flashlight and see the wrap glow as it reflects that direct light beam.

In the spring, as the days are getting longer, there is generally a little extra natural light and the fluorescent wrap material seems easier to pick out against the green grass; daylight and dusk.

Because Reflective and Fluorescent are properties of specific materials rather than actual colors it is not possible to get both reflective and truly fluorescent in the same wrap.
